Ajna, or third eye Chakra. The original visualisations for this composite were of a more tightly cropped image of a sadhu's face with the chakra overlays seen here. I found this sadhu wandering along the banks of the Ganges in the holy city of Varanasi, but when I did the original crops I was losing his magnificent wavy beard.
By pulling back to at least include his head and shoulders, I could introduce a landscape image into the background. The cenotaphs in Orchha were shot from the narrow road bridge over the Betwa River at dusk. By extending the exposure and softening the river flow in the diminishing afterglow, the final 20 second exposures actually turned the whole image majenta.
Overlaying him with that background and a textured aqua wall image, I had almost miraculously created the right colour and an etheric plasma like feel to the sky areas. The downward flow of his beard compliments the river softly flowing across the image, whilst the Bundi water temple on the left has a necessary upward flow of symbolic birds. Chakras are, after all, all about dynamic energy flows.
